Kenneth Lin, Nichole Mustard, and Ryan Graciano founded Credit Karma in 2007. The company offers a range of free financial services to consumers, including credit score monitoring, personalized financial advice, and credit cards and loan recommendations.

Credit Karma has seen rocket ship growth since its founding, and currently has over 100 million members. They were bought in 2019 by Intuit (Turbotax, Quickbooks), but still operate somewhat independently.

Like most tech companies, Credit Karma's primary headquarters is in San Francisco, California. They also have more than 1,000 employees spread across their other offices in Charlotte, Los Angeles, and London.

Credit Karma's Primary Competitors

Credit Karma has three primary competitors known as the "big three" in credit monitoring. You'll probably recognize them: this cohort of competitors includes Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax.

The more fun competitors are the more niche/startup-y ones that focus on more financial services but also include credit monitoring using one of the above institutions. We recommend checking them out too if you're interested in Credit Karma.

• SOFI: personal finance company and bank that also offers a bunch of modern financial services. They offer things like investing, loans, and financial planning.
• Chime: another personal finance company focused on credit building through bank accounts (check out their credit builder program).

Diversity at Credit Karma

Credit Karma does not self-report diversity stats, but they have won several awards on Comparably (kinda like a Glassdoor) around being a great place for both a diverse workforce and women (2021).

Is remote work allowed at Credit Karma?

Unfortunately, no. Credit Karma expects their full time employees to be in the office at least three times a week.

Does Credit Karma have good benefits?

Credit Karma Interview Process

The interview process for Credit Karma heavily depends on what position you're going out for. If you're looking to apply as an engineer, you will have a code screen in your second interview with the hiring manager.

Round 1 Interview at Credit Karma: Recruiter Screen

A recruiter screen is extremely normal for larger companies to vet you for the role you're applying for. They will ask some "screener questions," often written by the hiring manager, to try and weed out the applicants who are not qualified to save everyone time. Expect to talk about previous experiences that mimic the wording in the job description.

Round 2 Interview at Credit Karma: Onsite with Hiring Manager (+ code screen) Interview

This is arguably the most important step of the interview process! The hiring manager will want to dive deeper into the specifics from the recruiting screen. To kinda get a hint for what they'll ask, think about the kinds of questions the recruiter asked, and plan to answer in more detail.

If you're going out for a technical role like an engineer or data scientist, expect there to be a couple coding assessments tacked to this round. There will be a mix of technical and behavioral questions in this round.

Round 3 Interview at Credit Karma: Meet the Team!

After getting past the hiring manager, they'll want you to meet members of the team. Instead of rapid-fire back to backs, usually this is a panel of 4-6 people. This will be primarily behavioral and collaboration focused-- they're sussing you out as a culture and team fit.

Credit Karma Internship Program

Credit Karma fosters a great internship program to both undergraduate and graduate students. Their internship site but we'll recap it for you here:

Traditional Summer Internships

• Anyone in school can apply for a traditional internship at CK.
• Internships open in early September for summer of the following year. They close early March.
• The internships are onsite and based in Charlotte, NC.

New Grad Program

• These are full time roles targeted at people just out of school, meaning you can apply if you graduated within the past year (365 days out).
• There are two cohorts a year, one that starts in the fall, and one that starts in the spring.
• Primary new grad internships are focused on product (RPM program), engineering, growth marketing, and analytics roles.
• All the internships are located in Charlotte, NC.

Credit Karma Associate Product Manager (APM) Program

Credit Karma does have a rotational product manager program. The program lasts 18 months and 3 rotations across different areas-- including Credit Cards, Home, Personal Loans and Insurance teams.

Use Linkedin Premium to Find and Reach out to Credit Karma Recruiters

Roles these days, especially entry-level roles, are pretty competitive. There's no getting around it. However, showing you have the chutzpah to reach out shows wonders.

Premium subscriptions allow you to view more profiles and send more Inmails to locate and reach out to a recruiter that works on an area that hosts your target roles. Be funny, and emphasize the work you've done to match with their company. Mention Credit Karma's values, and how you'd relate. A little human connection works wonders.
